Dental Implants! Why is it the new trend

Dental Implants! Why is it the new trend?

  1. Dental implants, what is it?

When somebody looses their limbs, you must have seen a prosthetic fitting to assist that individual get through the walk of life. Dental Implant is more or less the same, except that it is inside your mouth. It is better than it sounds. It is a surgical treatment for adding root to the missing tooth. The implant being made from titanium is bio compatible and your body doesn’t even feel existence of foreign object in your mouth.

  1. Do you really need it?

This is very basic and fundamental question that comes to your mind once you get to know about dental implants. The answer is with you. I don’t see why you should not if you are missing a tooth or teeth in that perfect smile. Yeah teeth were considered only for chewing food and feeding your belly. Now we know better. Teeth also plays important role in how you look and smile especially if you are missing right where your lips separate. They also affect the appearance of jaw line. Implants also help in eating, chewing and looking completely natural since it look exactly like natural tooth.

  1. Is it safe if at all it works?

Being skeptical about a new treatment is only obvious and fair. But don’t worry the treatment has been tested, tried, researched and scientifically evolved. It definitely works and help you achieve what you desire in oral healthcare. As discussed earlier, implants are made from titanium which is biocompatible. Titanium and its alloys are also used in orthopedic joint replacement etc. So your body doesn’t reject it. Dental implants have the highest success rate than any other form of treatment for surgical implants.

  1. How soon should you get it done?

If you are considering getting dental implants for completing the set of missing tooth or teeth, I would suggest as soon as possible. By ASAP I mean as soon as you lose your tooth.

Why?

Every tooth is supported by the jaw bone below it. A cup like bone structure which holds and support tooth in place.  When you lose your teeth and you wait for deciding if you need a treatment, the bone that supports it is lost too due to loss of simulation to it. Implants placed in the bone stabilize it and reduces its loss, along with maintaining the bone structure and the jawbones shape and density.

  1. Dentures and bridge v/s Implants

There are three ways now you know which can help you fill in the missing teeth or tooth- Dentures, dental Bridge and dental Implants.

Dentures are the removal object placed in mouth to help you chew. Although it is more affordable, it cause inconvenience along with affecting the taste of the food you eat.

Dental bridge was commonly used restorative treatment prior to Dental Implants. Although it works fine, the success rate is lower than the Dental implants as it depends on the remaining teeth for the support of the bridge. Fragile or No tooth support for the planted bridge would make it impossible to work.

Dental Implants on other hand is the closest thing you can have to a natural tooth. It is supported by implant in the bone, so presence of any nearby tooth for support is not required. Therefore it does not affect the adjacent tooth and maintain the stability of the bone structure and jaw line.

  1. Whom should you see for treatment?

As it is best option only after a natural teeth, its cost is a little higher than the other treatments, getting it right is the first thing you want. Getting it done from any dentist won’t harm as long as the doctor does it right. But for a stress free treatment and getting it done without worrying about the risk of failure, Consulting a Dental Surgeon and Implantologist would be the best bet you lay your hand on.

Being eligible for implant is another case entirely which can be assessed by your dentist and discussed. To know if you are right candidate to get it done for your teeth, consulting your Implantologist who would give you a clear idea about what, how and when is it to be done.
